Uncle Prawn At Sunway Giza

Photobucket
Hi Uncle Prawn!

Photobucket
The chinese characters reads as Da Tou Sia (Big Head Prawn) though

Where is this? Its in Sunway Giza at Kota Damansara. Fairly new but its already a few months old. And I'll be honest with you; this restaurant belongs to my brother in law's brother in law. LOL confused? Well that doesn't matter because what I want you guys to know is the food!

I've only been there a couple of times because of family dinners and stuff so I won't comment on the service in case some of you might say that the service is bias towards family members. I'm sure the service is fine, from what I observe anyway. You're there to dine with loved ones, enjoy the ambiance and of course, the food. So I hope this review gives you a rough idea on the food that they serve at Uncle Prawn.

A LOT OF DISHES coming up. So hope you'll be patient with the loading :). Also, these food photos are actually taken from different makan sessions at Uncle Prawn; I think FOUR makan sessions. I won't be commenting on all but I'll try my best to remember everything!

Appetizers before you start your main course. A nice snack, seasoned evenly and not too salty. You can opt to not have this just like any other restaurant :)

Shark's Fin with Crab Meat Soup

Although you can find this at almost all Chinese restaurant, good ones are hard to come by. As you can see, a good mixture of shark fin and crab meat in every bowl!

Two Flavor Peking Duck

Duck lovers, this is a must try! Sweet and crispy Peking duck in a soft popiah wrap. I wanted to grab more of this but I had to resist :(

Longevity Noodles

We had this during my niece's birthday luncheon at Uncle Prawn. The noodles were fantastic! Spring texture combined with the stir fried meat and vegetable, it was a balance of flavors.

Claypot Lou Shu Fan with Egg

Stirred, not shaken

Lou Shu Fan is one of my favorite food and I must say, the one at Uncle Prawn is definitely not to be missed. I really like the ones where they give loads of toppings and of course, fresh spring onions for that added aroma. Pretty okay for the most part, and not overly greasy with oil.

Fried Rice with Salted Egg Yolk

Fried rice with salted egg yolk, the name of the dish really speaks for itself. You can really taste the presence of the salted egg yolk but not overwhelming. Furthermore, the texture of the fried rice had this rough coating because of the salted egg yolk. Unlike some other places where they claim to have "fried rice with salted egg yolk" but all you get is a plate of disappointment.

You HAVE to try this dish out. Forget about Chawanmushi because this is really really delicious and well prepared by the chefs at Uncle Prawn. Silky smooth texture shows you its not just a "mix-and-steam-it-up" dish.

Sang Har Min, Fried egg noodles with river prawn in creamy egg sauce.

FRESH and meaty river prawns. I'm already having a hard time blogging this at this point(*wipes off drool). The noodles were a little hard at first but the warm gravy helps to soften them up nice and evenly :)

Secret Recipy Thick Pork Ribs

OMG the Pork Ribs! Although it looks dry in the picture, it was tender on the inside! Sadly I didnt take a picture of it but it was awesome. Slightly charred on the edges but it all adds up into the flavor :)

Braised chicken with yam

Claypot  pork belly with salted fish

These two claypot dishes are highly recommended. We didn't order rice at that time but as soon as I saw these 2, I couldn't resist eating them with a bowl of rice. The pork belly with salted fish was really nice because you know you're having pork and there is a tad bit of saltiness coming from the salted fish. Couple that with a bowl of rice feels kinda homely. As for the braised chicken with yam, it was unique on its own because its not easy to cook something with yam. If you overcook it, it turns soft and mushy. The yam here was still "intact" while the chicken was nice and tender especially with this style, it was sweet!

Two Flavor Fish Fillet

This is one unique dish. Looks like pork, the texture was really springy but its actually fish fillet! Best of all, TWO flavors! The one here is stir fried with some vegetables.

Two Flavor Fish Fillet

This one here is deep fried with some special sauce topped with a tiny slice of cherry. Although you may think its all for presentation but the taste is a whole different story. Before I knew it was fish fillet, I thought they were prawns! That was how springy the texture was. The mayo like sauce goes very well with the fillet. I wonder what sauce was used here.....ah well.

Chopped Red Chilli Fish

When it comes to fish, it has to be fresh and at Uncle prawn, this is nothing short of that. With their own in house blend of chili topped with fresh chopped parsleys, a perfect combo. For me, I love parsley. I used to hate it but I can't remember when I started to enjoy it with meals whenever it is served. Took a small slice of fish, some chili and a piece of parsley; just heavenly.

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon

One of the main dish during my sister's birthday dinner. I'm sure the name of this dish caught your attention. What is in it? Not to disappoint you but no tigers were crouching and no dragons were hiding BUT you have mussels, prawns, crabs and mince pork! Okay slight mistake on my part. I got carried away with eating, I didn't take pictures of the prawns and mince pork. The prawns were on the right side and the mince pork was at the base of the soup. I LOVE THE MINCE PORK. It practically absorb all the sweetness from the soup and seafood. God knows how it happened but that was how I felt after tasting it.

The soup was curry based but its a sweet type thanks to all the natural sweetness from all the seafood and not forgetting the minced pork. Doesn't that makes you hungry? I would recommend that you try this dish out with family or friends.

If you've been there before, feel free to leave a comment on how is the food like during your visit. For those who are interested to try out the place, go for it! There should be a few reviews for Uncle Prawn by now. All I can say is, reviews can only help you to a certain extent. You just gotta check out the place and see for yourself.
