Sarawak Laksa At Restoran Gembira Taman Megah

Photobucket

Seem familiar? Yeah I blogged about this place awhile back ago for a curry mee stall. Just a quick update though, the uncle doesn't sell curry mee anymore. He is still there, selling wan tan mee. You can also have it with some chicken curry or the gravy. Anyway, I haven't been eating Wan Tan Mee when I'm there though. Instead, I'm having Sarawak Laksa!

When you're there, you will notice that the kolo mee / sarawak laksa from this stall is favored among patrons judging from what's on each table. The stall is actually right at the front after the yong tau fu stall(expensive~! I tak layan this stall).

Although the sign says Kam Lau Mee, people still place their order as Kolo Mee. If you want the Sarawak Laksa, you can just tell the uncle "Laksa" instead of the lengthy "Sarawak Laksa" and tell him that you want "mee" so that he knows what type of noodles you want. I don't see any other type of noodles though but just to be safe. However, its not your usual yellow noodle. The noodles are actually egg noodles from Sarawak.

Springy Egg Noodles from Sarawak

Though it may seem that the noodles are out for a long time but its texture still remains springy to last bite. They are just loosen up in a basin for easier management. The Aunty who cooks the noodles works really fast. If you were to notice how she works, its pretty cool; grab the noodles according to portion, separating and throwing them into the boiling water, fast.

Home cooked sambal and lime

The Sarawak laksa comes with lots of shredded omelette, chicken and tau geh (bean sprout). It also has a few prawns, 3 for a large order if I'm not mistaken. I would normally mix some of the sambal and lime juice with the sarawak laksa. The laksa's soup is pretty balanced in terms of flavor. Its quite hard to describe the taste as there are a little bit of everything; Sweet, Sour, Salty, Coconuty(ok I made that up but you get the picture), Curry.

Not that I'm any expert but the taste was just very appetizing even without the sambal with lime juice. Just make sure you give it a good mix just like any laksa meal.

Kolo Mee

Simple and unpretentious. It looks very inviting as it was placed on my table; kinda reminds me of some wan tan mee at smaller town area. The ingredients are pretty simple from the looks of it; some slices of char siu topped with minced pork. But don't be fooled by its plain looks because its very fragrant and packed with flavors. The char siu and minced pork might not be anything spectacular but its the noodles that steals the limelight. In this case, I would say 1 right makes 2 wrongs right. Wait, what was I saying again? Portion for the kolo mee isn't too satisfying for me even if I were to order large. Probably a single roll of popiah would be nice to seal the deal.

If you ask me, I would prefer the Sarawak laksa but if you're in the mood for something plain, go for the kolo mee. Just incase you're not familiar with the place, its opposite Ming Tien food court, the same lane as Famous Amos.

It does get a little crowded so be prepared to share a table with other food patrons.
