Taipei's MRT chip system.
Day 5 at Taipei - We were going to famous Jiu Fen Old Street. It was quite a long journey. We started off at Zhongshan Elementary School MRT station to Minquan W. Road station.
Zhongshan Elementary School MRT station
Nice and clean
Minquan W. Road station
Yes, it was cold even at the underground station
From Minquan W. Road station, we took another ride to Taipei's Main Station where we will travel by train to Ruifang.
English and Chinese explanation :) You are here! *yellow balloon at the bottom left*
Next up, another interchange from MRT to the old school railway tracks. Location, Ruifang!
Erm, right...so how do I use this?
Spent a few minutes trying to figure out on how to get tickets.
In the end, we gave up and bought tickets through the ticket counter LOL.
Perfect timing for us!
I haven't seen a train conductor for quite awhile. Pretty nostalgic
The train ride lasted about an hour! It was THAT far and both wifey and I had to stand during the entire trip; what a bummer because we knew that we were going to walk A LOT so if we do get any chance to sit while traveling, we will LOL.
Felt hungry after the traveling. Must be the cold weather too. We decided to snack a little.
Ji Tan Gao(雞蛋糕) / Something like a sponge cake
Warm, soft and fluffy!
Where we're at
Main entrance of Ruifang's station
We had to take a bus towards Jiu Fen Old Street. Took awhile before the bus came along.
Random street shot while waiting for the bus.
I can't remember how long the journey took but the scenery was amazing. Once we were near Jiu Fen Old Street, the bus stopped at its usual stop and we had to continue by foot. We found a great lookout point to take some landscape shots. The view was breath taking.
After a short walk from the lookout point, we finally arrived at Jiu Fen Old Street. The place was buzzing with tourists!
Off we go!
Some nougat like thingy
Too many stalls and it was getting really crowded
Spot us!
We started to feel hungry again. After all the walking, it was time for a snack! Spotted this stall selling some sort of wrapped ice cream with shaved nougat fillings and parsley.
For those who can read Chinese characters
A really good snack. Although the weather was already cold, the combination of everything was just tasty and refreshing.
Piggy souvenir anyone?
Where to go next....
Thanks to the cold weather and walking we stopped for another snack. It seems that this food is pretty famous in Taipei.
Glutinous rice skin with char siew fillings garnished with some parsley.
Once we were done with our meal, we continued exploring the rest of Jiu Fen Old Street.
I wasn't too happy with the customer service at this place(in the spoiler). There was a really rude lady running the shop. No one was buying from her anyway. Might not be 18SX but I decided to put the photos in the spoiler.
After that pathetic condom world shop or some sort, we carried on walking.
Sampling some bird nest product. We ended up buying 2 bottles(bottom left of the pic)
We ended up at some lookout point at one of the ends of Jiu Fen Old Street. We took a short break while enjoying the spectacular view and cool breeze .
As usual, more furkids along the way. This one was really cute with a...cheong sam?
One last stop before heading back was this dessert place. Apparently it's quite famous. When the weather is cold and you're feeling hungry, having something this delicious and piping hot, it's perfect.
Jiu Fen old Street is definitely a must visit if you're at Taipei. Lots to explore from food to scenery.
On the bus to head back to the train station at Ruifang
Train ticket to head back to Taipei's Main station
The place is HUGE. Almost looks like an airport no?
It was almost 6pm and it was already dark. The ceiling or roof are those clear glass type.
After the long journey, we finally got back to our hotel area and settled for whatever food that was easy to get. Since my wife doesn't take beef, I went ahead with some beef noodles.
Types of noodles
Beef slices - No idea what type of cuts
Wifey bought some porky soup with rice instead.
We were lucky because we were still able to buy some roast chicken too.
After a long day of walking and traveling, it was time to feast.
That's it for Jiu Fen Old Street outing. Day 6 at Taipei is where me and wifey went to Taipei 101 and Wufenpu Fashion Area. So stay tuned!
Definitely one of the most informative coverage of Jiu Fen I've ever seen. Seems like you guys really had a blast! Thanks aplenty for sharing :)
