Nagomi Shabu Shabu at Jaya 33

Photobucket

My watch was showing 5.30pm but I was still stuck in office with work. To make matters worse, it was a Monday. My mind was distracted with the thought of braving through LDP and SS2's traffic as I make my way to Jaya 33. At last, I manage to leave the office by 6.20pm and to my surprise, I arrived at Jaya 33 by 7.00pm. I had an hour to kill before the food tasting at Nagomi. Decided to grab myself a cup of ice blended Original Vanilla at Coffee Bean while editing some photos on my laptop.

First impressions of Nagomi? Simple and relaxing ambiance. My only regret was not taking pictures of the place to show you but this gives you a reason to check out the place for yourself. But anyway, the food tasting session was organized professionally and generously with a table reserved specially for us. I met up with some friends which I haven't seen for awhile like Bok who blogs at http://www.taufulou.com/ and the lovely Naomi who blogs at http://naomitham.blogspot.com/.

Lover's Bento

You could smell the aroma as it was placed on to the table; very inviting indeed. What attracted me was also the sheer portion of the bento set itself. I was also taken aback by the presentation of the food to be honest. Here is the breakdown of what the bento set comes with.

Suzuki Senbei (Home-made Seabass Crispy Cracker)

I began my bento meal with this. Squeeze the lime/lemon that comes with it and you're in for a treat. Lightly seasoned and the batter was not too thick which preserves the crispiness and flavors of the seabass. It's so good that you can even eat it on its own.

Rose Shape Sashimi (Combination of Salmon and Tuna Sashimi topping with Tobiko)

When it comes to a good and delicious shashimi, freshness of the ingredients is vital. I really like the combination of salmon and tuna. The chef actually added tobiko (fish roe) for that extra color as well as flavor into the mix.

Love Sushi Roll (Love Shape Sushi with Strawberry and Avocado)

This is rather unique because of the love shape design. Another thing which caught my attention was the usage of strawberry alongside with avocado. I love the mix of flavors from this sushi. You have strawberry for the sweet and sour, avocado that gives you a smooth texture while the other greens adds crunchiness to the sushi roll. This sushi roll is quite large so don't force it down with 1 mouth full. Take your time to enjoy each side of the "love".

King Prawn with White Sauce (Grilled King Prawn with White Sauce)

Although these are king prawns, the size wasn't as big what I thought but nevertheless, the taste was delicious with the special white sauce garnished with freshly chopped parsley. The prawn was really fresh and it falls off from the skin pretty easily and the flesh was springy to the last bite.

Nagomi's Special Sauce

As much as I would like to tell you, that was the same thing we were told. It's not for you to drink, but it's to be mixed with what you're about to see in the next picture below.

Soba Soft Shell Crab Salada (Soft Shell Crab Salada serve with Buckwheat Noodle)

The sauce was meant for the salad but I mixed it with everything including the soft shell crab. It was really delicious. The soft shell crab was deep fried in a light batter which makes it really crispy and full of flavor. The soba itself was tasteless for the most part but all of the flavors blends together really well with every mouthful.

By the time we finished the bento set, we were stuffed but we weren't done yet. We had the opportunity to try another special dish just for the Chinese New Year occasion.

Japanese Shashimi Yee Sang

Yee Sang with the special home made sauce. Noticed the cereal used?

Go easy with this as it has quite a lot of pepper.

All for one and one for four all (Salmon, Tuna, Amberjack and Sea bass)

The one we're having is the Rm48++ serving size which is said to be for 2 pax but it sure seems alot. I guess it was due to us being full from our bento meal.

For friendship, good health, good wealth, prosperity and *insert wishes here*

Sweetness delight

This special CNY yee sang is available from now till 20th February 2011 so don't miss out your chance to try this.

Chocolate Cheese Brownie (from Nagomi's sister company - Dessert's Bar Cafe)

And just when we thought we were done for the night, we were served a delicious chocolate cheese brownie. The top layer is the chocolate and the chunks of kiwi was a perfect combination to tone down the sweetness with a tad bit of sourness.

This dessert comes with the bento set earlier. For RM99++, the Lover's Bento is worth it. Why? It's only available from 11th of February till the 14th of February 2011, which means Valentine's day.
